Aeration
Aeration
Lake eutrophication begins when the BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) of a lake cannot be met. An anaerobic (oxygen deficient) condition exists when the bottom water layers and sediments contain no oxygen. When excessive pollution enters a lake, plant and algae growth increases. Such growth eventually dies and sinks to the bottom, resulting in an overload of organic muck. Lower forms of life on the lake bed die and this debris rots. Anaerobic bacteria which needs no oxygen flourishes, producing foul smelling gasses such as hydrogen sulfide. By pumping compressed air into oxygen deficient lake waters, dead organisms will not accumulate but will quickly be consumed by aerobic bacteria, thus providing for a healthier lake environment.
Northwest can effectively evaluate any water system as to its biological health and what impacts aeration may have on your water body. Like any other lake management tool, aeration may not correct all poor lake or pond biological conditions.
As a dealer of Vertex water systems we can provide solutuions to your lake or pond oxygen shortfalls.
